Tincograph AI
Where your AI data is stored
Everything the AI workspace keeps is stored in the browser you are using, under a single key in its local storage. Nothing about it is copied to your account.
That includes:
| Chats | Every message, in full |
| Projects | Names and their shared instructions |
| Artifacts | The code blocks lifted out of replies |
| Model choice | Which model the next new chat starts with |
| Provider settings | Including any API key you pasted in |
What follows from that
- Another browser is another workspace. A second browser, a different profile, another machine, or Nova’s pane rather than Safari — each has its own, and each starts empty.
- Clearing site data clears it. So does a private window closing. There is no copy on our side to restore from.
- It is not in your data export. The export contains what the server holds, and the server holds none of this. See Export or delete your data.
- Deleting your account does not delete it. The chats are on your machine, not in the account being deleted. Clear local data in Settings removes them, on each device.
- We cannot read it. Not a policy — there is nothing to read.
What does leave the browser
Three things, and it is worth being exact:
- Your messages go to the model provider you chose. With the built-in placeholder
provider, nothing leaves at all. With your own provider, the conversation goes straight
from your browser to the
baseUrlyou configured, with your key in the header. It does not pass through us. What that provider does with it is between you and them. - A credit is counted when you are signed in. The server records the action and how many — never the message. See Bring your own model key for the part of this that is currently wrong for your own key.
- Bookmarks sync. They are the one thing on this screen that is an account document: one list, merged per item across your devices, with deletions carried as tombstones so a delete is not resurrected by a stale copy from another machine.
Why it is built this way
The workspace was built to run with no account at all, and the simplest way to keep that promise honest is for the account never to be where the data lives. The cost is real and you should plan around it: there is no sync of chats between your devices today, and no backup of them anywhere.
If a conversation matters, copy it out. An artifact you want to keep should be saved to a file on your machine.
